Beacon Hill is a historic neighborhood in Boston. This historic area is known for it’s brick sidewalks, narrow gas lit streets, and Federal-style row houses. Beacon Hill is known to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Boston.

The Massachusetts State House is in a prominent location at the top of the hill, thus the term “Beacon Hill” being used in local news media to refer to the state government.

Historically, the neighborhood is named for the location of a former beacon atop the highest point in central Boston. The beacon was used to warn the residents of an invasion.
