As we continue down the Minuteman Bike Path from our towns spotlight (Arlington) last week we decided to stop in Lexington!

Settled in 1641, it is celebrated as the site of the first shots of the American Revolutionary War, in the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775.

Lexington is located just 11 miles Northwest of Boston and is bordered by eight other cities and towns including Lincoln, Bedford, Burlington, Woburn, Winchester, Arlington, Belmont and Waltham.

The total town population in 2016 was 32,271. Lexington High School ranks as one of the highest in the State of MA.

Lexington has over 1,300 acres of conservation land, including 26 conservation areas with trail access. This conservation land creates a patchwork of forests, fields, and wetlands that provides visitors many opportunities for nature enjoyment and passive recreation, including jogging, picnicking, birdwatching, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and bicycling. There are over 50 miles of trails cross the conservation land, many with boardwalks through wet areas.

Because we love to tour historical homes, there are three pre-Revolutionary buildings administered by the Lexington Historical Society that are open to the public seasonally. For details on dates and times, visit the Society's website.(Fee Charged)

After you tour the Historical homes you will find dozens ofexcellent eating establishment including formal dining, a diversity of ethnic restaurants and several sandwich and gourmet shops.

Stay tuned for next weeks Town Spotlight as we continue our journey on the Minuteman Bike Path!
